ISTEP stands for Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress. Its an exam that all students in Indiana take each fall shortly after school resumes. Recently they have decided to switch the testing time to spring, as to give students more preparation for the testing. well i do istep and it stinks so much its hard and dumb but it means your smart if you pass

They actually don't have a specific passing score for the ISTEP... or at least that is what my teacher told me. They actually compare all of the scores once everyone has taken the test, and then make a specific score the passing grade:O)
Should students be held back if they fail ISTEP?
no no no! If they try their best and show up on time and make an effort in classes there is no point for making them feel guilty for trying their best and showing up on time.
Why is Istep important?
It's not. It gives kids stress! STOP DOING I-STEP! Children from the age of 8-15 must take this unless they've have been held back, because of I-step! Makes me mad -.-
How do they grade writing prompts on the ISTEP?
I am a 5th grade teacher and went to a training on how to get the kids to pass the writing prompts on ISTEP. Here is what I have heard... The state uses Kelly temps to come in and read the student's writing prompts. Most have teaching degrees but many do not. So the same guy that was packing urinal cakes in boxes last week, is grading your student's test this week. Although the test states that length is not taken into account of the grade they look for a 2 page minimum. The next thing they look for is indentations for each paragraph. So if you are a teacher and you want to try and get your student's a better score push them to write AT LEAST 2 pages and indent.
