∙ 10y agoWhen her father died in a mine explosion, her mother zoned out, leaving an 11-year-old Katniss all alone and unable to find a way to fend for herself and her family. She once tried to steal scrap loafs of bread from the bakery's trash and when Peeta saw this, he pretended to burn bread he was making and even risked getting punched in the face by his cold and distant mother so that way he could give her the bread. Not long after that, Peeta showed Katniss a single dandelion blooming against the harsh cold, which was a symbol to Katniss that hope wasn't lost
