Penelope tells her to move it as another test to see if Odysseus is indeed who he says he is. If he is the her husband, he will know that the bed cannot actually be moved because it is built from the trunk of the Olive tree around which the house has been constructed. Odysseus calls her bluff by noting her orders of Eurycleia to be impossible, which finally convinces Penelope that her husband is home at last.

After being rescued, the King and his people ask Odysseus to tell how he came to their island. Odysseus tells of his adventures orally and from his point of view. At this point the reader should question if Odysseus is being completely accurate or perhaps embellishing his tales and adventures.
Penelope does not send for Odysseus' father, Laertes, for help because she believes that the suitors would prevent him from assisting them. Additionally, she wants to protect Laertes from any potential harm or danger that may arise from getting involved in their situation. Lastly, Penelope has faith in Odysseus' eventual return and prefers to wait for him rather than seeking help from others.
