Zeus destroys Odysseus' ship with a lightning bolt in retribution for his men killing the golden cattle of Helios. As a result, all of Odysseus men die, and Odysseus floats up on Ogygia, the only survivor.
Odysseus is upset and regrets the action of his men killing the sacred cattle of the sun god Helios. He knows that this act will bring trouble and punishment, which ultimately leads to the destruction of his crew.

Odysseus's men commit the crime of killing Helios's cattle on the island of Thrínacia while Odysseus is praying. This act angers the sun god Helios and leads to dire consequences for the men and their journey back home.
In The Cyclops, when he and his men are trapped in Polyphemus's cave, Odysseus stabs him in the eye to blind him. Once he is blinded he ties his men and himself to the Cyclops animals and when the Cyclops lets the animals outside they escape.
The cyclops treats Odysseus' men with hostility by eating them, while he shows care and affection for his animals by providing for their needs. He prioritizes his animals over the men by saving them for last to eat.
