They spend their money trying to pass laws to restrict the use of animals by humans. They do not rescue animals the way an animal shelter does, their money is for political purposes. They want to keep people from having pets, eating meat, being entertained by animals (movies, zoos, etc), hunting, etc. PETA is not a PAC and does not run a PAC, therefore it does not spend any money on political initiatives. PETA runs an extensive program in the Hampton Roads area to help animals and provide a free Spay/Neuture program, However the vast majority of PETA's resources are spent in public educatioin campaigns alerting people to the extreme way animals suffer in many industries.
PETA's main goal is to gain as much rights for animals as we have for humans. They wish to abolish all slaughter companies because they believe that it is inhumane for the animals raised for market. They also wish to abolish killing animals all together so we cannot use them for their hides or meat or anything else. They also are against testing on animals with cosmetics and other things. They basically don't want anything to happen to any animal that we wouldn't do to a human

PETA spends much of their donations on lobbyists to fight for an end to the pet trade (see S 737 and HR 2811).
From PETA's web site . . . "PETA's founders . . . wanted to promote a healthy vegan diet and show how easy it is to shop cruelty-free." PETA is also slightly corrupted; due to its desire for an end to the pet trade (on the website), they spend much of their donations on lobbyists for their cause.
