Thomas Jefferson was not present at the First Consititutional Congress, where the present day United States Constitution was drafted and written, he was in Paris. He is credited for being the main author of the Declaration of Independence
Jefferson was in Paris at the time the Constitution was written. His separate political ideology which is reflected in the Declaration of Independence was largely rejected in the Constitution which is why he generally opposed the ratification of the Constitution.
