What do you mean by engine number? If you mean the engine ID number that forged on to the block, you will have to contact Ford or refer to Chilton's. If you are talking about the engine type as in type 3 or type P, for proper replacement parts, then you must look at the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) , if that is what you are looking for then the 8th digit or letter on the VIN is the type you have. Every number or letter in the VIN means something.
Supposedly, the 8th digit of the VIN is a P if it's a SOHC. Also, I believe the SOHC engine block is labeled 2.0 L SPI
