If you are referring to the letter V, then no it was not considered evil, Sir Winston Churchill used the two finger sign during WW11, and it gave encouragement to the British people.
The "peace sign" was used by Winston Churchill during World War II to represent "Victory" because the upraised fingers looked like the letter V. He certainly did not use it to advertise to the world that he was a Freemason. That was no secret.
