If it has the word COPY in small letters, it's called a replica coin. Many private companies make replicas that are sold as collectibles and keepsakes. They often represent coins for which the genuine article is too expensive for the average person to own.
By law all replica coins must have the word COPY on them. "Replicas" of expensive coins without the word COPY on them have another name - counterfeits.

∙ 9y agoIt means exactly what it says - the coin isn't genuine, but is a copy of a real coin. Copies of coins are somewhat like reproductions of famous paintings. No one buys them to get rich, but simply to have something that looks like the original because the real thing is either unavailable, hugely expensive, or both.
The fact that a coin has the word COPY on it means the manufacturer is adhering to the Hobby Protection Act which requires all legitimate replicas to be marked prominently with that word. Any copied coin without that marking on it is considered to be a counterfeit because it's intended to deceive the purchaser.
