The atoms in the gas contract or retract from each other in order to fill a container. Therefore, the pressure increases/decreases as the atoms come closer/farther from each other and the edges of the container.

What determines the shape and volume of a a gas inside a container?

The shape of the containerA property of a gas is that it expands to fill the shape and volume of a container. An exception may be the case where there is more than one gas and the heavier gasses will tend to settle to the bottom of the container.

If gas is 1.77 a gallon how much would you spend on gas to fill up a 20 gallon tank?

35.40

What state of matter has a definite volume but no definite shape?

A liquid has a definite volume (which can change with temperature), but takes the shape of its container.A Liquid is the state that has no definite shape, since the atoms can move around, it is therefore able to form itself to the shape of its container. However, since the atoms still have weak bonds to one another, it cannot fill up a closed container by stretching out the atoms. (The form of matter that does this is a gas.)* Liquids can be very slightly compressed, but not to the extent of gases.---There are 3 phases of matter. Solids, liquids and gases. Solids have a definite shape and a definite volume. Liquids do not have a definite shape but do have a definite volume. Gases do not have a definite shape as they can "flow", and they do not have a definite volume as they can fill a container by changing in pressure (density).

When you insert a balloon into a bottle and you pump air into the balloon why the balloon will not fill up the bottle?

Balloon will not fill up the full bottle in this experiment as the air is restricted by the walls of the balloon. Balloon is a solid so the air will take its shape.

What state of matter fills all the space available?

In the gas state of matter the molecules are moving too fast to stick to other molecules. Because they are free floating the molecules expand to fill all of the space available.

How does a gas take up the shape of a container?

It will completely fill the container.

What is a kind of matter with a volume and a shape that both change to fill up empty space?

This is the definition of a gas.

What determines the shape a volume of a gas inside a container?

The shape of the gas is determined by the shape of the container (assuming that there is enough gas to fill the container). The volume of the gas is determined by the volume of the container (again assuming that there is enough gas present to fill the container.). When a gas is introduced into any container, it will assume the size and shape of the container if the container is filled. The exception to this rule might be if the pressure of the gas introduced is great enough to influence the shape of the container (i.e. blowing up a balloon).

How is solid different from gas?

Gas expands to fill up it's container, while if solids are put into the same container, the will not expand. They will stay the same size and shape.

Do you need to completely fill your gas tank up if you run out of gas in a fuel injector car?

No. A properly functioning engine and fuel pump do not 'care' how much fuel is available, only that there is fuel available.

How can gas fill a container of any size or shape?

it goes by the kind of car you use a t what brand gas was always used in it when u bought it. if you are buying a brand new car then u start it off of what kind of gas will be used and being that gas is a liquid it just flows in any kind of car hole because all cars have whole openings for gas. Personally I don't think the above person understood the question... A gas is able to fill a container because it has no fixed volume or shape, therefore using diffusion to fill the empty spaces; now you have a container full of a gas.

I do not understan your question. You cannot fill up an empty gas tank? Is that what you are saying?

How can i find out my auto gas mileage?

Just write down the mileage when you fill up your car and drive until you need gas again. Note the mileage at that fill-up, subtract from the previous mileage and divide by the gallons of gas to fill up.
