if you've heard of a mechanical wave you shouldn't need to ask this but yes it can as long as there is some sort of medium. However if there isn't a medium (a vacuum), which is most of outer space then it can't.

Yes, mechanical waves need a medium. Electromagnetic wavs however, do not. Your welcome :)

Does a mechanical wave require a medium in order to transport energy from one location to another?

A mechanical wave is a wave that is not capable of transmitting its energy through a vacuum. Mechanical waves require a medium in order to transport their energy from one location to another. A sound wave is an example of a mechanical wave.
