Roses are very beautiful. Their petals overlap each other and are simply amazing when they bloom! The rose comes in many colors. The most common color of rose is a pick or red. They also have thorns to protect them from danger or from getting picked.

When you get to a single seed, it is like a small apple seed. As it should be, because they are related. Rose seeds are inside a similar fruit that does not get so large but is often red or reddish, with a thin skin and a pulp or filling around five chambers for seeds in the center. Rose fruits, containing good amounts of vitamin C, are called "hips" and can be eaten or used to make tea. Some rose hips are mildly sweet and soft when ripe; but most are hard and slightly bitter. Rose seeds can be planted, but may not make a plant. Garden roses are not a species, they are combinations and crosses many times over; if seeds do come up, what will grow will be a surprise every time. Natural species will grow from the seeds of natural species, and most rose species make large patches by the fruit being carried around and eaten by many different animals.

Though they can be different sizes (small to large) depending on the stage of growth, the leaves of a rose bush are symmetrical. They are tear-drop in shape, with the widest part at the stem of the leaf and tapering to a point in the center-end. From the stem is a thicker center vein to the tip of the tear-drop. From the center vein, smaller veins are on both sides of the leaf (leaf halves) at relatively equal spacing. Each leaf has a small jagged edge all the way around the leaf. Most often, the leaves feel stiffer than, say, grass, but leaves can also curl inward at the edges.
