Adapted in science means that the animal has change for its environment. Examples of this is like a snow-shoe rabbit...... In the summer they are usually brown, but in the winter they turn white.

The term would normally airse with regard to Darwinian evolution. As a species evolves it becomes better adapted to a particular environmental niche. To adapt, in this sense, is to change in such a way as to be more capable of survival and reproduction in a particular niche. When environmental conditions change, a new adaptation is usually needed as a result.
