The aorta is the largest artery in your body and is connected directly to the heart and it also carries the blood to the rest of your body and disperses the blood to the branches of other arteries extended off the aorta.
The aorta and its branches lead into smaller arteries which then leads to all the places in your body to supply blood and oxgenize the body parts. For short, it is the artery that sends blood to other parts of the body.
The aorta is the main (and largest) artery of the circulatory system. The carries the blood out of the heart from the left ventricle.
The Aorta has 2 "sections" the ascending aorta which gives blood to the brain and the descending aorta which gives blood to the rest of the body.

coarctation of the aorta
Three arteries come off the Aortic Arch (from left to right) 1. Brachiocephalic Artery 2. Left Common Carotid Artery 3. Left Subclavian Artery. Then After the Aorta arches it then descends behind the heart and turns into the Descending Aorta which is then classified as either the Thoracic Descending Aorta or the Abdominal Descending Aorta.
The largest vessel attached to the heart is the Aorta, and it is responsible for delivering blood to the body. It is categorized in 2 groups, the Ascending Aorta and the Descending Aorta. The Ascending aorta includes the Carotid Arteries, which deliver blood to the brain, and the Subclavian Arteries, which brings blood to the arms. The Descending Aorta is located in the thoracic cavity with the rest of the heart and Aorta and is the part of the Aorta that curves down toward the bottom of the body and branches off into other arteries which supply the bottom portion of the body with blood.

abdominal aorta The Abdominal aorta is the longest section of the aorta, beginning at the diaphragm and spanning the abdominal cavity. The Thoracic and abdominal aorta together make up the descending aorta.

Ascending aorta, arch of aorta and the descending aorta are located in your thoracic cavity.
