I have a 1997 awd v8 ford explorer. It gets stuck in park and is very hard to get unjammed.
I would assume the 1997 Ford Explorer is heavier than the 1998 Ford Crown Victoria ( especially if the Explorer is 4X4 or AWD or has the 5.0 liter V8 )
It is the powertrain/4x4/AWD malfunction indicator. It is the second indicator light covered in your owners manual if you have one.
I would suggest the Ford web site.

All 4x4's Ford Expeditions are not AWD... I have a 1998 Ford Expedition XLT and it has (2H/AWD/4L/4H). But, my brother has a 2000 Ford Expediton EB (AWD/4L/4H).
