Density is the amount of mass per unit of space/volume.

For example, water has a density of around 1 kg/liter because 1 liter of water has a mass of 1 kg.

Something is less dense if the mass per volume is lower and more if it is higher.

Oil floats on water because it is heavier than the same volume of water (less dense), but a stone will drop to the bottom because it has a much higher density than its volume in water (denser).

'Dense' and 'denser' are comparative terms that regard the amount of a particular item or substance within a given set area.

A simple example would detail two classrooms of equal area (i.e., 50 feet long by 50 feet deep, etc.); classroom A containing 15 students while classroom B contains 45. The student population of classroom B could then be said to be three times denserthan that of classroom A. [15 * 3 = 45]

In chemical studies, the term is used to describe the amount of molecules within a particular element or compound. For instance, an atom (the set area) of the element lead [Pb] has an atomic number of 82, and therefore a higher (proton) density than does an atom of the element tin [Sn] with an atomic number of only 50. Particularly among metals, greater densities give the element the properties of being harder, stronger, and more durable.

The measurement for density is derived by dividing the mass of an item by its volume.

Finally, the term saw brief but prolific use during the early 1980s as derogatory slang denoting a thickness of mind which blocked intelligence or learning. (Ex: Dan Quayle was only slightly denser than the progeny of his running mate, President-to-be George W. Bush.)
The mass of an object! E.g.

Glass is more dense then air

There are two types of densities

No one is Optical Density ....

An optically denser medium is the one in which light travels slowly in relation to an optically reared medium

No 2 is Mass Volume Density

It means the volume by mass of an object or a substance.

It is the mass per uniit volume ...I n short what is the weight of every cubic milimeter of a substance :D

dense means something thick, or with a lot of mass. so if something is denser than something else, it is thicker.

Yes. Denser is a comparative adjective used to mean that the density og one object or substances is greater than that of another.

Example:

"Granite is denser than wood."

Optically dense merely means that light has trouble in penetrating. Coal is optically dense, as is a sheet of steel.

More sense have higher mass per volume. E.g ice block will sink in normal water. While oil is also less sense as it is less by mass per volume. It will float.
