It has different uses depending on the system your using. I use Windows and by selecting ALT+F6 you can switch between multiple windows in the same program (for example, when the Notepad 'Find' dialogue box is displayed, ALT+F6 switches between 'Find' dialogue box and the main Notepad window)
Pressing F6 also moves among panes in Windows Explorer.

But instead of jumping from one piece of selection or highlight, it comes first to any main text field like in internet browsers, press this key once, and it will highlight the address bar, same as for Windows Explorer.
