This depends on what place you go to. Some Animal Care places give you a bill. Other places are funded by donations sent by local citizens. So they pay for the work done on the dog. If you do happen to go to a place funded by donations, I suggest that you donate some $$ to their charity place.
This depends entirely on the veterinarian that you choose to do the procedure. You'll be paying for the exam, anesthesia, pain medication both during and after the procedure, the amputation itself, probable pre-anesthetic blood work, IV fluids, bandaging, and potentially hospitalization. Call around to local veterinarians to find out their prices.
in some countries though, Docking a dogs tail is illegal, so check first to make sure its legal before you go and get your dog's tail cut off.
Cutting a dog's tail is called docking. It is done on breeds such as the Rottweiler and the boxer. Vets usually charge between $250 and $500 to perform the procedure.
You can't dock a tail after one week of birth.
Docking a dog's tail is now an offence in the UK.
some times. boxer i own had tail docked. it was cheap. depends on the vet.
Yes, you can, it's a good thing, (if you want to) to get the puppies tail cropped at an early age! because it's soft with new tissue. But when they're older, the tissue underneath the skin is hardened, and not recommendable for cropping!
If you want to crop your dog's tail, then only a Veterinarian should do this. This should be done as a puppy between the ages of 1-5 days. It is a simple thing to do then for the Vet at that age. But older than that, then it is a major surgery. More and more breeds that use to have their ears & tails cropped are not being done anymore. Do not do this yourself or have anyone else do it other than a Veterinarian.
Just a guess, but it may be a holdover from dog fighting. Ears and tails may have been cropped because they were liabilities. That is an incorrect answer. The Pit Bull was a game dog originally used for hunting large game. The ears were cropped due to the fact that big ears make handles that can be torn and cause bleeding. AS for the "Fighting" you are way off base. Cropped Ears arent commonly found on "Fighting" Dogs as it leaves the ear opened and exposed which can lead to infection. Also tail docking in Fighting dogs...Also a NO a dogs tail gives them natural balance so Fighters didnt have their tail docked. Please if you are going to answer a question know what your talking people ask questions for a real answer not someone prejudice.
It is a matter of preference. Some people prefer the tails and ears cropped and some do not. What is "cute" to some may be ugly to others.
A bobtail is the horses with the cropped tails. The horse's tail is cut or trimmed, or tied with ribbons.
How much it costs to get a boxer's tail and ears docked will vary from vet to vet. They need to be around 8-10 weeks old.
Yes, absolutely! Vets are the responsible place to get it done.
dogs will sometimes become hyper and start chasing their tail, running and hopping up and down...when they see you they may come right to you and try to hop or jump on you, some of the calmer dogs or older may just show it by quickly waging their tail ~Agashe
It's not. They are usually cropped by the breeders as puppies.
Usually the breeders dock their tails when they are 3 days old as they have no nerve feelings yet. But if you have a dobie that still has a tail and ears it will cost you 500 hundred for the ears to get done and while the dog is under it should only cost you 15-30 dollars for the tail to be done.
No, a dogs tail is just a continuation of the spine.
I own and used to breed min pins so know the answer to this very well. Tails and dewclaws should be done no later than 3 days old. If it hasn't been done and your dog is older, check with your vet. It may be too late. You also need to ask yourself why you want the tail docked and if it is that important to you, why did you get a dog that's tail is not docked? Ideally it should be done at 3 mos. However I have personally had a Min Pins ears cropped as late as 1.5 years of age and they stood fine. I owned a Min Pin in the 1960s and his tail at 6 weeks was already cropped. I didn't have his ears done simply because I don't believe in this cruel fashion and no one can say it isn't cruel. It's all in the name of the breeder and showing off the dog. How would you like your tail bone cropped and your ears cropped, stitched and dipped in brandy?
