I've kept and bred gerbils for nearly 40 years. They do not purr. The previous answer stated they have vibrations. Gerbils are prone to seizures and tremors although this genetic anomaly has mostly been bred out. It's helpful to think of yourself as a giant amusement park ride to a gerbil. When you go on one it upsets your sense of balance and you get really nervous and nauseous. Gerbils are small and sometimes being carried or handled has the same startling effect.
I would think not. Mostly, they make a "snuff" kind of sound, and purring is a characteristic of domestic cats. I don't think any other animal makes that sound, but I'm not sure.
Yes they do it is part of their nature. The sometimes do it also though when startled or nervous
Yes...or should I say DAH, in fact guinea pigs do purr because they are in happiness and comfort or you are stroking them down their back and it feels good to them or they are content and are relaxed.
Yes, sort of. They make many, many noises. When you hear them at first, you may be a little shocked or frightened. Don't be. This guide should help you:
Chirps: If your chinchilla sort of chirps, it is nothing to worry about. Chinchillas do this a lot and sometimes it could maybe mean they are happy, when sometimes they could just want to make the noise.
Bark: Uh oh! If your chinchilla does a sort of bark, step away and let her calm down and have a little bit of space. This is a warning bark.
A guinea pig purrs when it is happy and content.
yes, in a sense they can, well mine do. if you rub them just behind the neck, that might make them purr
if its a long purr, it means they are happy to get petted
it is their throat and it means they like you, like a cat.
No
Actually, they can. Guinea Pigs can produce a variety of sounds that let us know how they're feeling. This whistling you're referring to is most likely 'wheeking'. Guinea Pigs usually wheek when they're excited about something, in my case whenever I venture near the fridge to get their dinner or put their favourite hay into the cage. Wheeking is not something Guinea Pigs are known for doing in the wild, it's believed to be a trick they've developed when interacting with humans. The wheeking also tends to become louder as Guinea Pigs reach maturity. My advice, don't keep them in the same room as the fridge!
guinea pigs squeak,and purr.
Yes this generally means your guinea pig is happy and content.
It sounds like a cats purr! its great to hear guinea pigs purr, it meens they love you. please do not confuse it with growling. . . guinea pigs will not growl. Hope this helped i hope your guinea pigs purring for you. i have 2 that purr non stop! one purrs if i pet it, and the other purrs if it has food and i stroke him.
When a guinea pig purrs it means it is happy and contented...my guinea pig used to purr every time I picked her up and snuggled into her ears....
to put it bluntly, if they smell something that turns them on they will squeak, purr and wiggle their butts.
Guinea pigs give off a squeaky purr noise when being held or pet. This also happens when they are happy.
No.Guinea pigs dont have a way to get rid of air in their bodys so feeding them gassy foods such as beens, broccoli, and cauliflower is a bad idea.
When male and female guinea pigs feel hormonal, they purr and shake their hips. This is called the mating dance. So I guess, whenever they feel happy and have a friend.
Sometimes Guinea pigs chatter their teeth to display anger. If a guinea pig is chattering its teeth, that usually means it is feeling territorial or upset. If your guinea pig does this to another guinea pig, separate them. Careful, sometimes tame guinea pigs can become aggressive while chattering, and will bite.
No!!!!!!!They are actually part of the rodent family.
If you are talking about a collie as in a dog, not likely. Most other animals make purr - fect buddies with guinea pigs. Your collie will most likely lick the guinea pig, eat its food, and play in its shavings! :} I'm not sure how your guinea pig will like some of this though! But it is still really good to introduce them, less of a worry and gives him/her a friend if they don't have a guinea pig pal. We let the dog go into the cage with are guinea pigs exept for at night. Then we put the lid on.
