Although you don't want this responsibility, you feel that getting rid of it would make you feel terrible and that others would blame you.
You need to be very honest with yourself. Is this your responsibility or not? Is this something you want to be part of your life or something that needs to be let go? If you did indeed choose to take on this responsibility, are you able to see it through to the finish? Are you willing to accept the consequences of backing out? It's up to you to decide.
