Because ethier somthing has been attacking it and it has been hurt or it is pregnant such as slugs they have fat things in there body you can see them like for example: a shrimp , you can see its body parts
The snail is trying to defend itself by blowing bubbles. this means your scaring it. do try to not handle it much.
it is trying to stick to somthing in the winter and making a tight seal so it doesnt freezer up :)

MY DAD HAS HAD ALOT OF FISH AND I HAVE SEEN BUBBLES COMING OUT OF THEIR GILLS BEFORE, IT USUALLY MEANS THAT THEY HAVE ALOT OF AIR COMING INTO THEIR LUNGS SO IT MAKE BUBBLES WHEN THEY BREATHE OUT.

We found a snail in our lake and added him to our Gold fish Aquarium. He is doing great. He roam's all over the tank not to mention, he keeps it very clean. My girl's named him Fatso.
Usually a snail named Simon comes in the night to the Wombat while he is doing his business and eats it all up. Simon is happy.
