A Mary Sue is the female protagonist/antagonist of a TV show, book, or movie. Happening mostly in books, Mary Sues are considered the worst kind of Original Character. A Mary Sue would be defined as impossibly perfect, no flaws whatsoever, and is the character that gets the most attention from the opposite or same sex. If these characters had flaws, they would be made to look cute. Really cute. Most of the time the Mary Sue would be a self insertion of the author/director, a kind of wish fufillment if you will.

The male version of a Mary Sue would be called either a Marty Stu or Gary Stu.

A Mary Sue is someone who is perfect in any way, have no meaningful flaws and are beautiful and superb in every way. Everyone loves them and they can have any guy they want blah blah blah... This term is usually used in writing, when the author makes a character they have always dreamed to e, so in a way, they are creating their own parallel universe where they are superb. These characters are supposed to be loved and symphatized with, but most of the time end up being hated by readers. So, Mary Sues are unrealistically perfect characters/people. It is an insult to call someone a Mary Sue. It means the person is too perfect and flawless, that they are a goody- two-shoes.
