Here is where dream interpretation gets dicey, each of us has our own dream language. What is a right reading for one person is often a completely inaccurate interpretation for another. So, here is my best shot… If this person is someone you know, the meeting is casual (as you meet them in a corridor or on a walk), and there is nothing threatening in the dream meeting it could be your mind reminding you to see this person, or get in touch with them, or it just may mean they are "on your mind" a lot right now. If the meeting is someone you do not know, a formal meeting such as a receiving line or royal gala, or is threatening in any way, it could mean you are nervous about how you are perceived by others, or suggest you need to do some work on your social skills.

I have dreamt of meeting a young lady once and then met her in high school. It didn't go well, just as in the dream, but it was very powerful for me. I dreamt of of another woman several times and met her later in life. Things went well with her for a time, but the cultural rift and my being absent ruined the relationship. I had also made some mistakes regarding her and that added to the frustration both of us felt. She came to me when we met and had told me that she had a feeling about my importance to her, which I still do not understand.
Also, the first time I saw my former wife I knew we were going to be married. It took her several years to tell me that she had the same thought when we met.
I guess I am trying to say that even though we don't know what the future holds, some of us get insight every now and then.
I used to curse my precognitive ability until it went away and now I wish I had not tried to change circumstances that resulted in a change in how things played out in certain instances.

It is important to understand that dreams speak through symbols - what is seen in a dream usually represents something quite different. So in this particular dream, the "guy" actually might represent the dreamer's boyfriend. Alternatively, depending on the context and action of the dream, the "guy" might represent one's father or boss or a problem that needs attention in real life.
