Mercury, in common with the Earth, has it's own (weak) magnetic field. It is the closest planet to the sun, and has no atmosphere whatsoever. It is the smallest planet in the solar system, and yet it's density is very similar to Earth's (another thing in common). Since they are both planets it could be argued that they have that in common, too.

They are both planets and in that respect, they are:

  • massive enough so that they are approximately spherical as a result of their own gravity,
  • not so massive as to generate thermonuclear fusion, and
  • have cleared their neighbourhood of planetesimals.
