Mitosis creates TWO new cells, which are used for growth and repair. Each of these new cells has the same number of chromosomes as the parent cell, 46 and it happens to reproduce and replace damaged cells and to allow an organism to grow.

Im doing the science gcse exam with it in today so i need to know it :D

  • Meiosis results in the creation of gametes, or sex cells. These cells are not genetically identical to the parent cells (unlike mitosis). Instead, these cells have recombinent genetic information allowing for variety during vertilization.
  • Meiosis reduces the number of chromosomes
    • Gametes- eggs and sperm each have two chromosomes
    • Somatic cells- nonreproductive cells, contain 4 chormosomes
    • Zygote- egg and sperm each with half chromosomes fuse together to produce single cell
    • Fertilization/syngamy- fusion of gametes to form new cell
    • Chromosome needed to be reduced in half or number would double
    • Meiosis- during gamete formation, produces cells with half the normal number of chromosomes

Technically, mitosis is specifically the process of division of the chromosomes, while cytokinesis is officially the process of division of the cytoplasm to form two cells. In most cells, cytokinesis follows or occurs along with the last part of mitosis.

daughter cells

What is the meaning of aster?

A star-shaped structure formed during the mitosis of a cell.

What is the difference of a cell that is formed from mitosis and a cell that is formed from meiosis?

Cells formed from mitosis are diploid and are identical (if no mutations occurred during DNA replication) to the parent cell. Cells formed during meiosis are haploid and are different than the parent cell (due to the process of crossing over). Note that mitosis produced only 2 daughter cells whereas meiosis produces four.

two molecules are formed, each with the original "upright"

What occurs when cells divide to form two new nuclei that are identical to each other?

This known as mitosis, which repairs damage and helps us grow.

It is beneficial in the replication of DNA. During this period of Mitosis two copies of each chromosome are produced.

yes they are identical to the cell parent in asexual reproduction.

How many cells are formed during mitosis and are they identical?

Mitotic cell division, which includes mitosis followed by cytokinesis, results in two genetically identical daughter cells.

The two daughter nuclei are formed during?

During the telophase stage of mitosis and meiosis two daughter nuclei are formed. The daughter nuclei begin forming the two ends of the cell.
