Judge Ford thinks he is doing the same thing as in chess where he sacrifices his queen to distract the player from the game, which is to get them to get his queen so that the player would open his/her defense. So Judge Ford had a feeling that Berthe Erica Crow is being sacrificed so he could make his last move.
