I can think of three possible meanings:

-- When a plant, a tree, a person, or an animal creates a new little plant, tree,

baby, or animal, we say that the big one has reproduced.

-- An experimental discovery doesn't mean much unless it can be reproduced.

That means that when the same scientist, or others, do the same experiment

again, they get the same results every time they do it.

-- When scientists call a big meeting to tell about some work they've been doing,

they usually have some papers they want to hand out to everybody who attends

the meeting. When that happens, they take one set of papers down to the photo-

copy room in the basement, or to the copy-shop around the corner from their

laboratory, and they order 200 copies. In that case, you could say that the copy

girl ran off 200 copies for them. But normally, in order to charge a higher price

for the work, the copy-shop will say that they "processed 200 reproductions of

original artwork", which makes it sound like a much bigger accomplishment.
