if you have been to Ireland it is a common phrase (i use it) to express shock. also they were probably saying bee-jay-zus. eg. holy bejesus you scared the life out of me
The spelling of the informal slang word is "bejeebers" (capitalized if alone). The common use is "You scared the bejeebers out of me", meaning that someone was seriously surprised or frightened. It is likely from the similar form "bejesus" or "bejeezus" ("by Jesus"), an Irish interjection of surprise. The word bejesus can be used more figuratively (e.g. to beat or scare the bejesus out of someone).
They can flap their wings but mostly they get up from a high perch and glide.
