To give an overview, the Mint re-engraved the dates on Lincoln cents in the middle of the years 1960, 1970, and 1982, resulting in 2 distinct varieties each year.

1960

On small date cents the tops of the digits 9 and 0 are at the same height as the top of the 1, whereas they're above the top of the 1 on a large date cent.

1960 small date cents are scarcer than large date coins and are somewhat more valuable, especially in higher grades, although nearly all of them retail for under a dollar in circulated condition.

1970

On small date cents the tops of all four digits are at the same height, as are the bottoms of the 1, 7, and 0. On large date cents the top of the 7 is below the level of the other digits and its tail falls below the bottom of the 1 and 0.

1970 small date cents were struck only at San Francisco. They're considerably more valuable even in circulated condition, with retail prices ranging from roughly $10 to $20.

1982

On small date cents the bottom of the 8 and 2 are at the same level as the bottom of the 1, and on large date cents they are lower. In addition the digits are thicker on 1982 large date cents.

There's generally little or no difference in the value of 1982 small and large date cents.

You may also want to do an image search which will provide a much clearer idea of the differences.

Note: There've been a lot of other coins with small date and large date varieties, but these are the only recent cases.

Dimensions of a penny?

If you mean a US small cent (1856 to date) the diameter is 19.2mm and the thickness at the rim is 1.55mm.

What is a JFK fifty cent piece with no date mean?

It means that it was struck with a filled die and may be worth a few bucks, take it to a coin dealer.

Would a mean be smaller or larger if you leave out an outlier?

Depends on whether the outlier was too small or too large. If the outlier was too small, the mean without the outlier would be larger. Conversely, if the outlier was too large, the mean without the outlier would be smaller.

What does it mean when there's one cent written on the back of a penny?

If your coin has just those two words in large letters above "United States of America" in smaller letters, it means you have a coin minted between 1909 and 1958 when that was the standard design for all cents. All you have to do is check the date on the front. Depending on the date it might be worth anywhere from a couple of cents to many hundreds or even thousands of dollars - please type the question "What is the value of a <date> US cent?" into the box next to the word GO at the top of the page, and make sure to put the actual date of your coin where my post just says "<date>". In fact, if you look at the coins in your pocket you'll find that EVERY American "penny" has the words ONE CENT on the back. That's because the coin that we all call a "penny" is actually a one-cent piece. The word "penny" is a slang use left over from the days when the US was a British colony and there were copper coins that really were called pennies.

How much is a large penny from 1819 worth?

There were no English pennies minted in 1819, so I assume you mean a U.S. large cent. Also assuming your coin is worn from circulation, it would retail for $20 to $60 depending on the amount of wear.

What does recut date mean on a large 1869 2 cent coin mean?

In earlier years, when a die which was being used to mint coins became worn so the date did not appear clear, the workers at the mint would "repunch" the date, meaning they would take punch tools with the numbers of the date and try to make the date clearer on the die. Sometimes called "recut" the more common term is "repunched". This practice was also applied to mint marks which were getting worn from use.

Is the standard deviation best thought of as the distance from the mean?

No. A small standard deviation with a large mean will yield points further from the mean than a large standard deviation of a small mean. Standard deviation is best thought of as spread or dispersion.

My 1833 penny shows wreath with V in center not one cent What does that mean?

Because the date isn't 1833 and it's not a penny. My guess is that the coin is the size and color of a nickel and the date is very worn. If so, what you really have is an 1883 five-cent piece. What is it's value and it is mint and you are correct?
