Sublimation is a form of state transition or phase change. It is the process where a solid changes states and turns directly into gas without passing through a liquid state.

Dry ice is a good example of a substance that undergoes sublimation. We can watch a chunk of the white solid "disappear" without liquefying.

Another example: Under certain conditions, snow on the ground will seem to slowly disappear as it changes directly into water vapor, bypassing the liquid phase.

In lower grades it is sometimes accepted that sublimation can also be when a gas turns straight into a solid without going through a liquid state but that transition is formally known as deposition. You can remember this by saying solid-gas sublimation because they both start with s!

According to Edmund Burke, the Sublime is characterized by feelings of awe, terror, and greatness that are often accompanied by a sense of danger or vastness, evoking both fear and admiration. In contrast, the Beautiful is marked by qualities such as symmetry, harmony, and pleasure, invoking feelings of delight and tranquility. The Sublime elicits a more intense emotional response tied to power and the infinite, while the Beautiful reflects more on aesthetic appeal and proportion.

What is the weak sublime?

The weak sublime is probably an oxymoron. An oxymoron is when two words that contradict each other are used together to describe something. Sublime is used to describe something that is awe-inspiring and dangerous, such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, huge waves. It is often used about nature. It has been used to describe weird and wonderful things. I am not entirely sure what the 'weak sublime' means, it would depend on the context. It could mean that the sublime described is weak, or it could mean that the concept of the sublime is weak. I'm not sure if i am making sense but i hope it helps :)
