Jesus is actually telling His servants to take HIS yoke upon their shoulders , and learn from HIM:

"... for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for YOUR SOULS. For MY yoke is easy and MY burden is light." (Matt.11:29-30 NIV)

Most people don't know or understand that mankind is presently in the employ of Satan the Devil... to whom Adam and Eve gave over man's soveriegnty of the earth, as well as his obedience and worship in the beginning.

Mankind is in slavery to Satan's ways... which is hatred, envy, jealousy, lust, greed, evil, iniquity, lawlessness, disobedience to the Commandments of God.

Most people don't understand that the "shed blood of Jesus Christ" PURCHASES a "faithful believer" in that blood FROM Satan. And that person is now the "servant" and in the employ of God.

That "redeemed" servant is expected to work for, and be a "slave" to God's ways from the time of their "spiritual transaction."

God's ways are the opposite of Satan's.

"...the fruit of the Spirit is Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control. Against such things there is no law." (Gal.5:22-23 NIV)

God's servants are to "take on the yoke" [the loving burden] of God's work... showing the world God's loving gentleness and humility. They are to begin obeying God's laws -- "loving their fellow man," instead of striving against them. They are to care about and for their fellowman, knowing that man's potential is to become God's Eternal Family in the end.

Mankind is blinded to it. But the Hope and Joy derived from such Knowledge yields the fruit of inner Peace in God's servants. It's easy, restful work, not striving... not hating.

It's not, take YOUR yoke upon YOU -- it's take JESUS' yoke upon you. He is the new Master. He lifts the burden off of you... and takes them upon Himself. And it's "through Him" that True Peace is obtained.

"Peace I leave you; MY PEACE I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." (John 14:27 NIV)

"I have told you these things, so that IN ME YOU MAY HAVE PEACE. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33 NIV)

It's FROM JESUS CHRIST that we are to learn God's ways... not from ourselves. And it's only THROUGH HIM that we might hope to overcome the world.

We don't know God's ways. We are naturally selfish... not loving and selflessly giving.

We were born into this world into the employ of the god of this world, the Great Dragon, Satan the Devil. His ways we know. In his ways we are practiced. And what we didn't know at first... we were taught by our parents and the world.

Jesus' yoke places us under HIS management. It's in HIM we must trust and place our faith. And it's from HIM that we must learn and "retrain" and "overcome" the ways of the Dragon that we know so well.

This world has never known Peace. Nor does it know the way to it. This world rushes:

"...into sin; they are swift to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are evil thoughts; ruin and destruction mark their ways. The way of Peace they do not know; there is no justice in their paths. They have turned them into crooked roads; no one who walks in them will know Peace." (Isa.59:7-8 NIV)

Jesus' yoke... and His instruction... puts His redeemed servants under new management. Servitude to a benevolent Master.
