Tetanus is an infection that usually enters the body through wounds or punctures. It causes severe spasms of the jaw (lock jaw) and other parts of the body. It can cause stiffness in muscles and difficulty swallowing. Other symptoms include elevated temperature and blood pressure, and sparodically elevated heart rate. In some cases tetanus can result in death.

Yes, with the tetanus vaccine (Td, or TdaP w/ pertussis vaccine as well). Adults should get a booster every 10 years.

The DPT prevents diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (whooping cough).
