For a book of around 780,000 words, the Bible says remarkably little about morality. In this regard, it is divided in its support for what we would regard as the immoral, such as invasion, genocide, murder, prostitution and slavery, and what we would regard as moral, including the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would they do unto you. The beatitudes are somewhat based on morality, but are not in themselves moral guidelines.

Adultery is proscribed in the Ten Commandments, but glorified in the story of King David.
