I don't think there are any bible verses that address same gender marriage. All of the verses referred to in the debate appear oppose homosexuality itself, not homosexual marriage, and there are several of these. So, The Bible is clearly opposed to homosexuality and by extension homosexual marriage.
Interestingly, in addition to forbidding homosexuality, the bible in clear words forbids going to fortune tellers, getting tattoos, divorce, wearing gold jewelry and eating shellfish or pork, among several other things. But, you don't hear these brought up much and as far as I know there are no laws proposed to outlaw these practices.
Gen 19:5-7; Gen 19:9; Lev 18:22; Lev 20:13; Deut 23:17; Num 25:6-9; Judges 19:22; 1 Kings 15:12; Ez 4:1-4; Job 36:14; Rom 1:23-27; Jude 8; 1 Cor 6:9, 10; 1 Tim 1:8-10
Alternate Answer:The Bible does not mention same-sex marriage.Another answer:
The Bible only mentions that the sex "ACT" between same genders [or people and animals] is "abominable" [utterly disgusting] and so absolutely "wrong" in the eyes of man's Creator.
But the notion of MARRIAGE [to stand in public to establish such a union, imagining that God might even remotely bless it] is too grossly satanic to dignify it by mentioning it in God's Word.
The Bible does teach against homosexuality and homosexual marriage.
Additional Comments:
The Bible doesn't mention Trinity, either, but the concept is in both the Old and New Testaments. Jesus didn't use the word homosexuality, either, but He taught to obey all the law, which includes that. The Bible teaches many lessons through concepts. Just because it doesn't use the words you want it to use doesn't mean it's not there.
You will notice that God told Adam and Eve that "Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh." Gen 2:24 Why would he tell Adam and Eve this when neither Adam or Eve had either mother or father?
The Bible does teach against 7 sexual acts or relationships: sodomy, sexual acts at, near, or on the altar, homosexuality (Act or relationship), sex during her menstruation, incest, sex with children and bestiality.
The Bible also teaches that marriage is a sexual contract in both the Old and New Testaments. The Bible also teaches the concept that sex, of any kind, is the act of marriage. So, the act of homosexuality is marriage. Not only that, but a homosexual marriage without sex, being regarded as a marriage, is, in itself, sin. 1 Cor 7.
There is no explicit reference to same-sex marriage in the Bible. The Bible depicts different kinds of marriages, from polygamous to monogamous, from dissoluble to indissoluble, but does not contain any explicit reference to same-sex romantic partnerships.
Although some Christians like to point to the relationships between David and Jonathan, Ruth and Naomi, Jesus and St. John, the Roman Centurion and his ailing slave, there is simply not enough convincing evidence to indicate that the authors of the books containing these accounts intended them to be understood as portraying anything similar to a same-sex marriage.
As for prohibition, there are passages in the Bible condemning anal sex between two males, right alongside passages imposing the death penalty for eating shellfish, committing adultery, and working on the sabbath. But people do not marry so they can have sex with each other. That is not the purpose of marriage. Neither being able to marry nor being prevented from marrying has any impact at all on whether one can have sex or not, or how much. It is a totally separate issue.
As for lesbian marriages, there is absolutely no passage anywhere in the Old or New Testaments that in any way speaks against the idea of two women having sex with each other.
The Bible does not address same-sex marriage.
The Bible makes no mention of same-sex marriage because the concept was unknown at the time. There are only a few verses that mention certain sexual acts (but not marriage).
At no place is same-sex marriage mentioned in the Bible.
It says that she can get a divorce.
One place in the Bible that refers to strong marriage's is at Ecclesiastes 4:9-12. Here the Bible says in verse 12 that a "three-fold cord cannot quickly be torn in two." This refers to God being in a marriage. This type of marriage would be especially strong.
The bible says it's unatural
Same-sex marriage, or anything, is not in the Bible. It says that a man should be with a woman, and a woman with a man.
Galileo's work came into conflict with the church because he advocated a heliocentric model of out solar system. This conflicted with what it says in The Bible.
That would be up to your parents. But the Bible says you shouldn't date until marriage.
No, it is not wrong to lust after your spouse.
Galileo's work came into conflict with the church because he advocated a heliocentric model of out solar system. This conflicted with what it says in The Bible.
Exactly what the bible says. That sex is to be between a man and a woman and only when they are married.
The book of Romans says once a women is married she must stay with the man, til he dies and then only can she get married. Divorce is not allowed according to the bible.
I don't believe there is anything in the Bible about marriage underage, since in most marriages in the Bible, the girl would be considered "underage". Puberty was when girls were put into arranged marriages in Biblical times.
Beacause in the bible it says that its good not to kiss before marriage because it will lead to other things. I heard this from the Duggars.
