Could mean any number of things. A bad sensor, bad electric motor or a bad switch. Some had problems with the wiring harness.....when it's raining they'll get wet and throw a code. Others had a problem in the dash switch. The solder points inside the switch loosen and sends a bad signal. The switch can be taken apart and the solder fixed. Unfortunately most code scanners you can buy won't read the codes for the 4 wheel drive. Unless you can find something obvious you'll probably have to take it to a dealer to have the codes pulled.
Try turn the ignition key to "on" position without starting engine and depress accelerator to the floor 6 times
