Actin takes part in many important cellular processes, including: muscle contraction; cell motility; cell division and cytokinesis; vesicle and organelle movement; cell signaling; and the establishment and maintenance of cell junctions and cell shape.

Actin helps to form microfilaments in the cells of our bodies. It helps to construct and maintain the cytoskeletal structure within cells. Actin is also what assists myosin in muscle contraction.
