The day Christ rose from the dead and appeared before His Disciples, He asked for food. They gave Him broiled fish and a honeycomb.

If honey comes from bees, they must have made it then too.

Honey is mentioned quite often in the Bible.

These terms are mentioned in the Scriptures with honey being mentioned many times. When describing the promised rich agricultural abundance of the Promised Land, The Bible describes it as a 'land flowing with 'milk and honey' starting in the Book of Exodus to Moses. Here is another verse with bees and honey together:

Judges 14:7-9New King James Version (NKJV)

7 Then he went down and talked with the woman; and she pleased Samson well. 8 After some time, when he returned to get her, he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion. And behold, a swarm of bees and honey were in the carcass of the lion. 9 He took some of it in his hands and went along, eating. When he came to his father and mother, he gave some to them, and they also ate. But he did not tell them that he had taken the honey out of the carcass of the lion.

Additionally:

"Bees" is also used elsewhere in the Bible in similitude of battle:

"...the Amorites who lived there came out against you like a swarm of bees. They chased and battered you all the way..." (Deut.1:44 NLT New Living Translation).

"...hostile nations surrounded me... they surrounded and attacked me, but I destroyed them all in the name of the Lord. They swarmed around me like bees..." (Ps.118:10-12 NLT).

"...The mighty king of Assyria will come with his great army! ...They will swarm around you like flies. Like bees, they will sting and kill." (Isa.7:17-18 NLT)

As honey was fairly rare in biblical times, it would have been seen as a luxory item (see Genesis 43:11). Also, it was the standard of sweetness (see Revelation 10:9) and of a lavish meal (see Song of Solomon 5:1). Lastly, it is compared to the goodness of God and His Law:

Psalm 19:9-11

New International Version (NIV)

9 The fear of the Lord is pure,

enduring forever.

The decrees of the Lord are firm,

and all of them are righteous.

10 They are more precious than gold,

than much pure gold;

they are sweeter than honey,

than honey from the honeycomb.

11 By them your servant is warned;

in keeping them there is great reward.
