Yes. The Bible teaches that children should not be provoked, nor caused in any way to stumble. Parents are to be nurturers.

2Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; 3That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. 4And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.

2And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, 3And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. 4Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. 6But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

"Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." (Eph.6:4 NIV)

Honor is a two-way street. Everyone is to honor and respect everyone... and it begins by "being honorable" -- thereby earning it and deserving it.

An abused child needs to be in nurturing environs [in the Lord]... which the Lord expects the parents to provide [another example of our works that God shall Judge at the Last Day]. If he isn't... he needs to be provided one and the abusive parent(s) punished.

The bible speaks about obeying parents (as a way to honor parents) in several locations:

(Ephesians 6:1) Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

(Colossians 3:20) Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.

The bible also implies that being disobedient to parents is a bad thing:

(Mark 13:12) Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death.

(2 Timothy 3:2) For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy.

To show respect and reverence to your father and mother, obeying their instruction. It is the 1st Command with a promise to all who follow it:

Exodus 20:12New King James Version (NKJV)

12 "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

In many places in Scripture, God tells us that He wants to be a Father to each of us. God wants us to develop His character. So the way we obey and respect our human parents says alot about the way we want to honor God. To follow this Command is extremely important for us as God told the Congregation of Israel if someone does not honor their parents they should be put to death. Eventhough God has not given His New Testament Church the enforcing authority of this death penalty for malicious behavior towards ones parents, all should realize it is considered a grave offense in God's eye:

Leviticus 20:9New King James Version (NKJV)

9 'For everyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death. He has cursed his father or his mother. His blood shall be upon him.

Yes the bible tells fathers not to grieve their children. A father's children are supposed to subject to him in and out of love and not fear or because he is overbearing and threatening.
