chromatin is a localised portion of chromosomes and consists of the same composition as a chromosome. chromatin is a nucleo-protein complex, comprising of DNA and proteins. proteins SERVE TO NEUTRALISE ELECTROSTATIC REPULSION OF NEGATIVELY CHARGED PHOSPHATES of phosphodiester backbone of DNA enabling the condensation of DNA.In eukaryotes the proteins complexed with DNA include histones and non-histone chromosomal proteins. In prokaryotes proteins complexed with DNA include polyamines like spermine and spermidine, HU proteins, H-NS proteins, and IHF proteins.
