What does the plant imators do in Plants vs Zombies?

The imitator gives you a second of any plant that you have already used, if you want it. For example, if you have already selected the potato mine, but will use them heavily, you can select a second potato mine from the imitator menu.

The imitator copies another plant you have so you can get them twice as fast but it only works on normal plants so you can't copy crazy dave's plants.
