"Dirty South" is a phase that East Point rapper Cool Breeze is credited as being the one who coined the phrase. Breeze and producer Rico Wade stated in a magazine article that the meaning behind the term 'Dirty South' is, "It's about the red clay and dirt roads.." and went on to state,"It means we country, but we ain't country."
As such, 'Dirty South' is not a style of hip hop or rap music, but is a reference to the region from which groups such as the 'Goodie Mob', 'Outkast' and 'Arrested Development' originated; in the southern U.S. The phrase became a track on an album of the same name with the phase "Wha Chu Know?" That was released in 1995 by the group 'Goodie Mob'.
