Uso means brother or sister. It's a bit complicated but I'll try my best to explain...
You would only call your sister your "uso" if youwere a girl.
You would only call your brother your "uso" if youwere a boy.
If you are a girl, you would refer to your brother as your "tuagane".
If you are a boy, you would refer to your sister as your "tuafafine".
Uso is a term used to refer to Samoans as a brother, whether they're related or not. Often used as a term of respect.
If you mean "uso", it's the same word for brother or sister.
It's Uso (ohh so)
uso = my brother
Thank you very much to you my brother/sister. Uso translates to both brother and sister in Samoan, depending on which gender you're interacting with.
"Ou te misia oe, lo'u uso" or "Ua ou misia oe, lo'u uso".
Thank you brother = Faafetai lava uso.
Uso-Cousin or family
Uso, Manuia le aso fanua
It gets a bit tricky so I'll try my best...Brother in Samoan is "uso"..but that's only if you're a male referring to his brother. A female would refer to her brother by calling him her "tuagane". A female would refer to her sister by calling her her "uso". Hope that helps.
Uso If you're a girl, then it is "uso". If you are boy, you would refer to your sister as a "tuafafine". (And if you are a girl, you would refer to your brother as your "tuagane") The word "uso" is also given used by a male when referring to his brother.
Sister is uso if a female is talking about her sister; tuafafine if a male is talking about his sister. Brother is uso if a male is talking about his brother; tuagane if a sister is talking about her brother. Cousin is Tausoga, so if it is a male cousin, it's tausoga-tama, and if it is a lady cousin, it's tausoga-teine.
If a male is speaking, he would say: "E to'atasi lo'u uso" or "E iai lo'u uso e to'atasi"; if a female is speaking, she would say: "E to'atasi lo'u tuagane" or "E iai lo'u tuagane e to'atasi".
