If someone writes a story with words only and there are no pictures, you have to create the picture in your mind. In a comic book the story is told through a series of pictures. Your eyes see the pictures. You can follow the story because the comic book drawings "visually represent" the written word.

If you wanted to tell someone that you felt happy, but didn't speak their language, you could visually represent your happy feelings by drawing a "Happy Face" on a piece of paper. The Happy Face visually represents your feeling. Other emotions and things that have no real substance are represented by artists, graphic designer and other people who work in the "Visual Arts".

Graphs are another way to visually represent things like stock market price changes, weather trends, populations, and any other statistical data.

What is an advantage of using a pie chart to represent data?

The pie chart communicates the figures much clearer than just a set of numbers. Pie charts visually represent the figures as if they were pieces in a pie; the larger the figure the larger the piece.
