the designations for abnormal sex chromosome complements in the human female in which there are, respectively, three, four, or five instead of the normal two X chromosomes so that each somatic cell contains a total of 47, 48, or 49 chromosomes. The answer is rather humorous actually. German physicist, Wilhelm Roentgen, discovered a new form of radiation in 1895. He called it X-radiation because he didn't know what it was. The name stuck and it's that type of radiation that is used to make x-ray exams today.
