∙ 11y agoIt sounds stupid, but the X stands for 'eXtra' powers, which the team members all have. Most people just assume it stands for the X-gene, which is what makes a mutant a mutant, or it's named after Professor Xavier, their founder.
-According to Stan Lee he devised the name X-Men after the name, The Mutants, was turned down. He then named the series X-Men and subsequent group the X-Men after Charles Xavier. He chose to name the series After Xavier due to the fact that the members have always been followers of Xavier.
