Raccoons are omnivorous which means that while they are in their natural environment, they will eat both plants such as nuts, fruits, seeds and other such plant material, and animals such as frogs, crayfish, nestling birds, bird eggs, amphibians, fish, insects and worms. When forced into suburban areas, raccoons become true opportunists and will feed on cat food, food that is easily accessible in garbage, dog food, etc.

They also eat acorns, birds' eggs, corn fruits (they sneak over to farms),seeds and small land animals like grasshopers or mice. Fresh water animals too. They'll find their food in rivers, streams, or your very own trash can if it is easy to open. If you have herd of this, raccoons are known to have been said that they "wash" the food they find. They really don't' wash their food they actually do that, because they it will be "easier" to eat, as what I've herd. They don't "wash" their hands, either if you've herd, they only to that when the animal it catches might have a shell. People learened that they do that so opening a shell of an animal so it would not be as hard.
