Structural engineering is rooted in math and physics as well as critical thinking and problem solving. Laying a good foundation in these topics in highschool is a great way to start. Take math up through calculus and at least one physics course as well. Make sure not to jump into a higher math class than you can handle. The point here is to lay a solid foundation. Make sure to start at a level where you are able to fully understand the concepts of the course, it will make your life a lot easier in college. Take classes in critical thinking and technical writing if you can. It is highly benificial to be able to communicate well as a structural engineer. If you can't get your ideas across, they will be lost or misinterpreted and your design will be in vain.
