Of course I have no idea what your feelings on the issue might have been. If you are capable of having feelings, you should try to figure out what they were (assuming that you have actually watched or read the play and understood it). But it is worth noting that in this play and in Richard III, which has almost the same plot, the overthrow of an anointed king is justified by his having committed horrible atrocities, or rather the same horrible atrocity: the murder of a child or children. This is the ultimate atrocity and Shakespeare pulls it out in both plays in order to justify the action of deposing a king or ruler by force, which in all other plays is suggested to be the root of political instability and evil.
Lady Macbeth totally sucks Macbeth's dick right now.
Macbeth was not a fictional character made up by Shakespeare. He was based on a historical character, although he is not in any way like the real historical Macbeth. Shakespeare took most of the story of Macbeth from the history book Holinshed's Chronicles which contains most of the events shown in the play. Shakespeare did develop the character of Macbeth found in Holinshed, but he did not invent him.

Critics believe that the character of Banquo was initially a murderer, however, that identity was scrapped for one of a nobleman. However, Banquo was believed to be an ancestor of James I, so his character was changed to avoid trouble with the king. The place of Duncan's death was also changed from him being set upon and killed on the road, to death coming when he visited Macbeth's castle. King Duncan's character was changed from an inept king, whose job Macbeth already had to do, to the more benevolent Duncan, who was considered an apt king.
Shakespeare was not interested in writing history. Even his so-called History Plays changed facts for dramatic effect. Macbeth is a tragedy. It was more important to create a tragic character than an accurate one.
If Macbeth's ambition was changed to contentment with his current state, it would significantly alter the theme of the scene. Ambition is a central driving force behind Macbeth's actions and the subsequent consequences, so without it, the themes of power, corruption, and downfall would not be as pronounced.
