You will have to define what hazard is posed by the food. Peanuts placed in an airtight container may not be contained well enough for someone with a severe allergy to them, for example (a little peanut oil fingerprint on the outside of the container might be more than enough to trigger an allergic reaction). And I would think radioactive or explosive food would need their own special considerations as well.

For instance a pair of blood stained jeans, they would be placed in a paper bag so that there is a bit of air flow and the jeans will then not rot. However may other sample types would normally be placed into plastic bags, such as fingermarks lifted from a scene. these do not need the air flow so are placed and sealed into an airtight plastic bag.
