Anna Smith Strong was born in 1740 and died at the age of 72 in 1812. She was a Culper Spy during the Revolutionary War. The Culper Spy Ring was formed by George Washington to provide the colonists with military intelligence from the British.
It was different for each spy. James Armestead was a double agent for us. He posed as an escaped slave in the British encampment. A teen girl rode day and night, escaping capture at a loyalist's home to delievr a secret message. The Culper Ring was a key spy ring for Washington. Loyalists spied, too. One of the more famous ones spied on the progress or an alliance with France. He posed as an assistant to one of the men (not Franklin or Adams) who was trying to procure an alliance.

They are credited with the discovery of Benedict Arnold conspiring to give the British control of West Point.
